Not much has happened since my last post but I thought a new entry was necessary. Really, my summer has consisted of two main activities: working and studying Turkish. NSLI-Y provided me -- and the seven other wonderful young adults I will be traveling with in September -- with the language tool Rosetta Stone. We were then prompted to keep up with a schedule to stay on track with our studies and successfully complete the first two levels by or before our departure. HOWEVER, recently we received a "Rosetta-Stone-shame-email" (at least that's what we're calling it) stating that our language studies are lagging a bit and we better get a move-on. Whoops..
Anyhow, in my initial post I failed to mention that I will be traveling with other scholars, seven of them to be exact. We have all been chatting on a Facebook page dedicated to, well....us, and sharing our overwhelming excitement and impatience. Our friendships continue to be web-enabled but I can already tell that they are amazing, unique individuals who deserve this scholarship more than anyone else.
As the wait continues and the substantial amount of paperwork and consent forms are sent out... I can't help but think to myself how lucky I am. Who gets the opportunity to live their dream at the age of eighteen? This scholarship is one of the greatest opportunities I can imagine, which only means I will work my absolute hardest to succeed and grow from it.
