Hello there or "merhaba" in Turkish. My name is Lydia Weber and I am an 18 year old girl ready to embark on a life-changing journey abroad to Izmir, Turkey. About three months ago, I received a fully funded scholarship from the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program (sponsored by the U.S. Department of State) to intensively study Turkish for an academic year. This program provides merit-based scholarships to high school students with the hope for them to obtain the right linguistic skills and cultural awareness to promote American engagement abroad. I highly recommend it to everyone with the same language passions and cultural curiosity as I. :)
In the past couple months I haven't received a prodigious amount of information regarding my future travels, however, I have gotten details about my travel itinerary - very exciting! All I truly know is that I'll be leaving for New York on September 2nd, having an enlightening orientation for a of couple days (probably offering tips on how to correctly acclimate, safety, etc.), and finally leaving for Turkey on September 5th.
